England is served by over 10,000 local councils who operate under a raft of powers handed down by statute and which are governed by the Local Government Act 1972.

Most of the area that ChALC covers (Cheshire East, Cheshire West, Warrington, Halton and Trafford) is parished but there are still some areas that do not have their own parish council. Information on how to create parishes in unparished areas can be found in this section of the website.

Using the links above you will find a vast array of information about how to become involved in the local council movement and, when there, how to participate fully in their daily business.

Many local councils have declared a climate emergency and a webpage has been set up which explains what actions ChALC has taken to support initiatives. See above for link.

Those of you who are already councillors (or clerks) may also find useful information for the governance and management of your council.
